The European Line and the Götaland Line represent an opportunity for Swedish industry to develop completely new technologies at full-scale within the railway sector. It offers Sweden the chance to break new ground and to create new export opportunities. The market for high-speed technology is global and is undergoing substantial growth.
An initial study indicates that when the European Corridor is realised it will be possible loan finance the investment and to repay all loans at (where applicable) the market rate of interest. A large part of the project might be privately financed, thereby not burdening the government’s investment budget.
An initial intermediate goal is that a decision is taken to build the Götaland Line with the capacity for high-speed trains between Stockholm and Göteborg.
A secondary intermediate goal is that the government should initiate a route survey for Southern Sweden – preferably in collaboration with the Swedish National Rail Administration (Banverket), the Southern Main Line (Södra Stambanan) and the European Corridor.
